EGE 313 (BSED Math3) 2023-2024

This course analyzes the diverse cultural practices, roles, and contributions of Philippine Indigenous Communities, providing a historical overview of both Muslims and Indigenous communities. It uses a multidisciplinary lens of social sciences to analyze contextual conditions, evaluate economic and health status, and critically examine key issues impacting their well-being. Fundamental concerns include integrating indigenous issues into 1) essential services, 2) implementing legislation for Indigenous Peoples' participation in governance, 3) fostering coordination between the ICCs/IPs, NCIP, and LGUs, 4) securing Free and Prior Informed Consent, 5) reviewing an IP curriculum, 6) ensuring the application of the Indigenous Peoples' Rights Act, and 7) advocating for non-discrimination and fostering a transformative mindset. Through this course, students in higher education will develop critical thinking skills to analyze and address complex socio-cultural issues affecting ICCs/IPs in the Philippines.

ELAL 209 Language & Gender 2023-2024

This course explores the role of gender as a sociolinguistic variable in the linguistic behavior/patterns of males and females. Through the examination of issues relating to gender and language use, students will understand how linguistic practices and patterns are shaped by gender, culture and society. Specifically, this course focuses on the evolution of feminist theory, ideology, hegemony, performativity, and the “borders” of gender identities.

ELAL 309 Intro to Pragmatics

This course deals with the study of language use in context. It provides the fundamental theories and concepts in pragmatics from Continental and Anglo-American traditions in order for the students to communicate fluently and effectively in various settings and engage in language research.
