ELAL 208 Computer-Mediated Communication

Computer-Mediated Communication, a course offered to the Bachelor of Arts in English Language students, primarily discusses the social and linguistic features of various forms of texts brought about by information and communication technology (CHED CMO 24 s.2017). Students in this course explore and investigate the language use in the digitally mediated communicative situations, including the paralinguistic features such as emoticons and pragmatic aspects of conversation. Hence, they engage in research endeavors using the appropriate analytical framework in order to understand and explain how such features of digital interactions transpire in the various digital media platforms. This course aims to provide students a deeper understanding of how language functions in online environments and use such understanding in promoting responsible and justifiable digital communication.
