AL 7215 Discourse Studies

This course advances students’ background knowledge on discourse studies as they study language in use with inter-disciplinary approach to further understand how discourse figures in the various social processes, social structures and social change in the context of Mindanao and beyond. Further, this course draws heavily on social theories and seeks to develop critically contextualized approach to linguistics which identifies issues of ideology, power and inequality as central to the field of language studies.

This course is a close examination of the relationship between language and society. It draws attention to theories, issues, and research methodologies in sociolinguistics necessary in investigating aspects of how people use language in different groups or in different contexts.
